A passion for stones
Between Cartier and the stones, it's all about intensity. This is demonstrated by the Maison's rigorous selection criteria, which go beyond the standards used in the industry; the savoir-faire used to enhance their beauty; its commitment to responsible sourcing; and the care that Cartier invites us to take of them day after day.
Beyond universal standards
When it comes to stones, the entire jewellery profession refers to the same universal quality standards. Cartier stands out by doubling its selection criteria. For example, the Maison is extremely rigorous about the size of gems, as the distribution of light in the stones and their elegance depend on it.
Cartier has its own in-house team of experts. Their savoir-faire is the result of a long internal learning process, each new generation being trained by the previous one. It is through this exchange that this precious talent is cultivated, a unique eye that makes it possible to determine the stones worthy of being set on a Cartier creation.
The Maison works with independent certification laboratories universally recognised by the profession. At the same time, Cartier is one of the few jewellers to have an in-house laboratory, the aim of which is to carry out its own analyses and construct appropriate protocols.
Signature savoir-faire
Once chosen, the stone becomes the focus for all Cartier artisans, united around a single goal: to enhance its beauty.
The gem cutter, through his mastery of cutting, reveals the hidden secrets at the foundation of its personality: the play of light, chromatic nuances and crystallisation. Like a meeting of minds, the emotion felt by the designer inspires the creation in the making, which the jeweller in turn transcribes into volume over the course of a long process in which all the trades are involved, from the setter to the polisher. Cartier artisans are like couriers, plunging into the mystery of the stone in order to offer it to others.
