CARTIER AND AMERICA (2009)

San Francisco, Legion of Honor, Fine Arts Museum

To mark a hundred years of Cartier being established in the United States, the San Francisco Legion of Honor Museum hosted the Cartier and Americaexhibition on the initiative of its director, John Buchanan Jr. Exhibition curator Martin Chapman, a decorative arts specialist, researched the Maison’s top American clients and handpicked a selection of pieces from the Cartier Collection for display alongside private loans and documents from the Cartier New York archives which were exhibited here for the first time. This hugely popular exhibition saw its original run extended, and went on to inspire another American tour initiated and designed by the Denver Art Museum, which will begin in 2014 and is to be continued at the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston.
